Domestication of Foreign Judgments

Foreign judgment or judgment from other states, sometimes referred to as sister states, are  entitled to full faith and credit in the state of Georgia.  Ther term “full faith and credit” is a Constitutional concept which compels one state to treat another state’s judgment as if it were a local judgment.

Mr. Van Sant is often retained by lawyers and judgment creditors in states throughout the United States that are seeking to have a judgment enforced in the state of Georgia.  If you have obtained  a judgment against and the judgment debtor has assets of property located within the state of Georgia, we can domesticate the foreign judgment for you in the state of Georgia and then utilize post judgment remedies available under Georgia law to satisfy the judgment.  Call us to discuss your options if you need to transfer an existing judgment to the state of Georgia.
